Weedsy blind-tested customers and they guessed: indica or sativa?

It’s Sativa and IndicaWhen you see these terms, the subconscious is conditioned to recognize “upper marijuana” and “downer cannabis.” That’s because if you go into a pharmacy to query the budder about a drug that can make you feel energized, tired, or cold, they will use such classifications as a guiding principle.

But is “sativa” and “indica” the right way to shop for a strain, though? To check it, I had a community of customers vape the same strain and assume whether it was a sativa or indica, depending on how they felt after 30 minutes.

After seeing the video above, you’ll note that just one out of three smokers correctly estimated that they were consuming a sativa, and the two made an indica estimate. Why? Why?

What’s in a strain?

There are a few variables that affect the way a cannabis plant or drug makes your body react, and we know more about these variables day after day thanks to lab-sourced evidence.

Cannabinoids are the chemical substances inside cannabis that we equate with the benefits of the herb. The most popular is THC, which makes you high, and CBD, which doesn’t make you heavy.

Terpenes are aromatic compounds that create the taste and fragrance of a plant. Examples of popular cannabis terpenes include myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene.

Cannabinoids, and probably terpenes, create the symptoms that we experience after consuming a cannabis strain or drug; this is referred to as the entourage influence.

It’s an individualistic method, and when you watch this picture, the explanation why only one person might guess whether the strain was a sativa or indica is because Lemon G behaved differently with each person’s body, causing specific results in each.

Lemon G is a dominant form of THC followed by terpenes myrcene, limonene, and caryophyllene. While it is marketed as a sativa in most pot stores, its chemical composition is surprisingly close to other derivatives, including Swiss Bliss, Chocolate Diesel and Tom Ford and this would have created some uncertainty in a blind taste.

That’s why it’s necessary to inform yourself about cannabinoids, terpenes, the entourage influence, and how all this influences your particular body.

It is also critical that cannabis growers have every cannabis commodity checked by approved labs to offer this knowledge to customers.
